In his field of photography, Dominique James gets to meet different famous people and take photographs of them. When asked if he had met anyone in particular that hit good chemistry with him, he quoted Henri Cartier-Bresson’s statement about Entrainment;

“He made me suddenly realize that photographs could reach eternity through the moment.” – Henri Cartier-Bresson

Dominique added on, “the moment when the subject and the photographer thinks alike and enters a private world, like they are in a dance where everything else fades into nothingness. The two people are so intense into the pictorial and it usually happens for around 15mins at maximum for me. If I can achieve entrainment during the shoot, each and every photo in the shoot becomes a defining moment.”

It is this “runner’s high” that motivates Dominique each time he picks up his camera.

Dominique has years of shooting experience and met countless celebrities from the media industry and politician arena. He first started becoming a photographer 15 years ago as his second career. Before then, he was a writer who came to meet many professional photographers that sparked his interest in knowing more about photography. Heeding to the call from within, he learnt photography through self study and by assisting professional photographers for more than 5 years.

Dominique recalled taking photos of shoes as one of his initial assignments, which lead on to him shooting models with shoes. Gradually the models remained, sometimes without the shoes.

Hand-holding a 4-star cross filter infront of the lens, and turning it around for the right angle of the rays, a set of burning tea lights can look gorgeous. Add to that the reflection caused by a dark, smokey glass with generously sprayed water to create a ripples of reflection.
